Working with children, teens and parents:
Using play and art therapy, I help children express and process their anxieties, hurts, angers and increase their sense of control and self-esteem. Using behavior modification, developmental guidelines and cognitive techniques, I work closely with the parents to support and educate them on effective parenting skills and strategies that fit their family culture.
Stress tolerance skills and pain management:
Increase your awareness of how you respond and react to stress and anxiety. Look at your strengths and learn how to build on them to change your daily routine and your emotional landscape. I teach visualization techniques with art-directives and other self-soothing strategies to reduce strong emotional or physical responses to manageable levels.
Relationship and communication skills:
Assertiveness skills, self expression, self-image, how to make friends.
I coach people to develop their skills for connecting with others. This can be done in individual or group settings.
Special education issues and needs: Using my 14 years as a special ed teacher, I can help parents understand the needs and ramifications of their child’s disability. I coach parents on being effective advocates with the schools that increases cooperation and collaboration, providing more consistency between home and school for the child. I help parents navigate the IEP process, what are reasonable and healthy goals for school and home.
Art Therapy:
No experience necessary. All ages welcome. When you cannot find the words or words just aren’t enough. Very appropriate for trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement, eating disorders, visualizing change/goals, increasing motivation and achieving success. Art making may only be for a few minutes or the whole session depending upon what you need from making the art.
